About Us

Located in the heart of Southern Virginia is the hidden jewel of Mimosa Lake. As you

drive through the majestic entrance you will know you have found the perfect place to

start your life journey with the one you love.

Mimosa Lake is located directly across from historic Lunenburg Courthouse. The

courthouse was built in the late 1700s and is one of three Thomas Jefferson designed

courthouses in the United States. The 300-acre estate boasts a rich past dating back to

the 1800s with an impressive legal history.

The estate was once the home of Sheriff A.B. Shackleton in the early 1900s. Sheriff

Shackleton served as sheriff of Lunenburg County for 50 years and holds the record of

longest serving sheriff in the United States. William Edwin Neblett Jr. bought the estate

in the 1930s and served as the Commonwealth Attorney for Lunenburg County. The

four-hundred-year-old cedar trees on the property hearken to days past. Mimosa Lake

was a working farm for many years where cattle roamed the fields.

Today Mimosa Lake is charting a new course as an ideal location for a destination

wedding or event. It offers Southern hospitality at its finest. The centerpiece of the

property is the 30-acre private lake backdropped by 300 acres of open fields and

evergreen trees providing year-round beauty and privacy for your ceremony.

Step back in time and enjoy a slower pace for your wedding ceremony. Whether you

choose a single day wedding or a total weekend retreat, the staff at Mimosa Lake will

work hard to ensure that your wedding is perfect, leaving you free to enjoy and capture

every moment of your wedding.
